A friend of mine at work asked me this very strange question, wanting to
know if I cared what her nails looked like. Wierd... Anyway, I'll put it out
there. Are nails a thing that dudes care about or do we just see them as a

Apple revolutionizes music... Again. This time with radio.

The new iPod Nano has a radio in it and allows you to tag songs you like on
the radio so that you are reminded to buy them in iTunes when you get home.
Particularly awesome for bands that are on the radio of course. Hopefully
Serenik won't be far off being on the radio ;)

Whatever happened to 'going to a gig' to find out more about your favourite band? Whatever happened to queuing up for hours so that you could get a copy of their CD before any of your mates? To be honest, I never had this 'luxury'. Yes, that's right, I call this a 'luxury'.

I've grown up in an era where if we want information, we get it 'right now'. If we want to know more about a band, we jump on their myspace page and read their bio, listen to their music and download their songs for free from torrent websites.

Where is the 'love'? Where is the respect for the artist? Where are the goosebumps you get when you've discovered something for yourself that no-one else has ever heard. Where has the mystique of music gone?

As a marketing professional by day, I find it hard to get my head around the frustrations of this over-exposure of information to the masses. While bands should be out there promoting the hell out of their material, they shouldn't be lazy, force-feeding it through laptop computer screens and mobile phones. It needs to be a warm, goosebump-inducing experience. Music crosses boundaries that any other form of communication cannot. Music can move you, no matter where you're from or what language you speak. It is for this reason that music must have a face and a personality to front it. This is the key to it's success.

Facial expression and persperation are difficult to see in a Youtube video. Which is why I encourage you to experience music in the flesh. If you want to get the most out of music, make the effort to get off your arse and support your favourite band in the flesh. Besides, if less and less people are buying CDs, artists will be relying more and more on people seeing their live shows. And if we're not going to see their live shows, how are they intending on making their money to continue doing what they're doing?

So get out there and see your favourite band for yourself.

In the words of Zekiel from Mammal, "Don't just stand there and spectate, particpate!!!"

I'll tell you that one of the most inspiring things for me in music is a crowd. Whether it's a crowd of three people from work who turn up blind drunk and yell at every little bit of silence in our set, or if it's a crowd of tens of thousands; it is the crowd that keeps you going. It's the crowd that makes you want to be a better guitar player, makes you want to be a better singer and makes you want to stay up till all hours writing and practicing even though you know that you're goint to turn up to work the next day absolutely destroyed.

It's the ultimate appreciation for someone's music. A crowd makes all the hard work so worth it.

Unstoppable... Such pity that things went so wrong (in the head) for him... I just can't comprehend what life would be like for someone like MJ. Imaging being brought up in front of the media from as young as 10 years old at not know a life outside of this... how do you live a normal life? how do you 'grow up'? who are 'really' your friends? when you're face isn't known by anyone, it's far easier to impress people with your soul. it's such a pity that most people are so hung up on face value and not how people are feeling. I think it would be tough to have so much fame...

The first blog!

Today I was bored and decided I'd start a blog online. I figured it would be a good way to spill my beans whenever I want. I hope you enjoy. It'll probably be mainly music-orientated but we'll see what happens. To start off, here's a taste of some of the music from my band, Serenik.

We recently played an acoustic gig at The Basement in Sydney. I've been to the place so many times to see some really sick jazz musicans play there. I often go with my grandad who is a huge fan of jazz (and also great jazz drummer himself!). It seemed wierd to play on that stage... It had a really nice vibe. Dark, candle-lit and warm... and the sound on stage was great! We could finally here ourselves singing properly... it's always so hard to get three part vocals right when the sound in the room is shocking. This was a treat for us and a great change from the usual gigs!

Anyway, we were told at the end of the night that the performances were actually recorded by the sound engineer on the night... so here's a taste of our performance on the night. It's a recording of our new song called 'Better'. We're going to use this recording as a demo to give to Greg Stace, the sound engineer who recorded our last track, 'Curse.Cry.Fight.Drink.Change'. He's really eager to lay another track down with us which is kinda cool.
